Movie Review: IMPRISONED: SURVIVAL GUIDE FOR THE RICH AND PRODIGAL (M18)
If you're as old as I am, you'd remember that Hong Kong prison flicks were all the rage in the 1980s. Sadly, the fad had all but died down in the 90s.
This is where Imprisoned: Survival Guide for the Rich and Prodigal fills the gap for those who have been yearning for grittier, edgier material in the vein of Chow Yun Fat's classic Prison On Fire (1987).
Flippant philanderer Nelson Yu (Gregory Wong) lands himself in jail after hitting a passer-by during a drink-driving episode. While doing time, he discovers that prison has rules of its own, but isn't as atrocious as he had imagined.
Wong lacks the charisma of a younger Chow. But Imprisoned is a sincere effort and should win over audiences with its positive message.
RATING: 3/5
