Movie Review: Jane Got A Gun (NC16)
Natalie Portman serves as co-producer of this Western.
And because of her involvement, we get a strong female character in a world where men and their guns ruled.
With help from gunslinger ex-lover Dan (Joel Edgerton), Portman's Jane takes up arms to defend her husband and home from a group of outlaws led by the notorious John Bishop (Ewan McGregor).
There are no surprises and it is a slow burner, with many flashbacks that sometimes disturb the flow of the plot.
That said, Portman and Edgerton (who co-wrote the script) put up a good fight.
This is a good addition to the female-centric movies we have seen of late. Here's hoping there will be more to come.
