Movie Review: Pitch Perfect 2 (PG13)
Pitch Perfect was such a pleasant surprise when it came out in 2012.
This musical comedy sequel isn't exactly on pitch, but it's not quite off-key either.
Actress Elizabeth Banks, who was a producer on the first movie, makes her directorial debut here and does a decent job following the same formula.
The Barden Bellas, a college group of female a cappella singers who are now led by Anna Kendrick's Beca, find themselves losing their credibility. To salvage their reputation, they must compete on a global scale and take down a capella champion Das Sound Machine from Germany.
It's quite a feat - the German group is a brilliant, well-oiled precision group, unlike the flustered Bellas who need to "find their voice" all over again.
Rebel Wilson provides comic relief again, while Hailee Steinfeld joins the ensemble as a wide-eyed a cappella fan who has some tricks of her own.
Expect some show-stopping performances.
