Queen of Coachella
Our resident DJ/journo pays homage to Hollywood hippie chick Vanessa Hudgens
COMMENTARY
Yesterday morning on my Kiss92 radio show Maddy, Jason & Arnold in the Morning, I did a story about Coachella.
I don't really know anything about Coachella, but I thought it was important for our listeners to know that something called Coachella exists.
That way, if they hear their kids talking about it, they won't feel quite so lame.
Basically, Coachella is a music festival that's currently taking place in California's Colorado Desert.
It spans two weekends and features a wide variety of artists - everyone from Lorde to Motorhead, Arcade Fire to Outkast.
My fave up-and-comers Chvrches and Future Islands also turned up.
All that said, Coachella is really more of a fashion show than it is a music festival.
One seems to hear more about what celebrities are wearing than about the music.
There were all kinds of pictures of actor Jared Leto with his Biblical hair and a shirt with a whimsical palm tree print.
Reality starlet Kendall Jenner wore a giant nose ring and her infamous "I have no ****" T-shirt.
American actress-singer Emmy Rossum had pink flowers in her hair.
The Biebs' on-again-off-again squeeze Selena Gomez swanned in with a big floppy hat and see-through dress.
Actor Leonardo DiCaprio wore a polo T-shirt and a cloth cap. Frankly, he looked like someone's sleazy dad. Like maybe Justin Bieber's sleazy dad.
There were tons of other fashionable celebrities at Coachella - English model Cara Delevingne, American model Kellan Lutz, actress Sienna Miller...
But the belle of the ball would have to be one-time Disney cutie Vanessa Hudgens.
Hudgens is probably the closest thing Hollywood has to a flower child now.
While a lot of the shiny, happy concert-goers seemed sort of incongruous at the fest, the US actress looked like she was born to be there.
BUBBLY
I mean, she posted an Instagram video of herself blowing bubbles.
She pranced around in a Native American headdress.
She wore a bindi.
One could imagine her doppelganger at Woodstock, Live Aid, Lollapalooza or Glastonbury.
With her gorgeous smile, she's joy incarnate. She seems like a true free spirit, comfortable with sex and sensuality but in a sort of innocent way. She seems gentle. She just goes with the flow.
Rock festivals have changed a lot over the years - the list of rules for Coachella attendees is basically endless.
But that doesn't mean they can't be fun.
I'm too old for Coachella, but Hudgens makes me wish I weren't.
