Teen jailed six months for stealing Fast And Furious star's car roof

He didn't respect the dead. Now he'll have to repent, behind bars.

A teenager who stole a roof-top panel from the late actor Paul Walker's wrecked Porsche was sentenced yesterday to six months in jail, authorities said.

The theft took place soon after the Fast and Furious star died in a crash.

Jameson Brooks Witty, 18, pleaded guilty to grand theft of property, destroying evidence and obstructing a officer.

Besides jail time, a Los Angeles County judge gave him three years of probation.

Accomplice Anthony Edward Janow, 26, who pleaded guilty to the same charges, will be sentenced in October.

A coroner's report said Walker was speeding at over 160km/h when his Porsche crashed in November last year. The 40-year-old’s body was charred beyond recognition.

His death halted production of the seventh film in the multibillion-dollar Fast and Furious action film franchise for a while.

On the day of the crash, someone using the Instagram handle "jamesonwitty" posted photos of a portion of a red Porsche's roof. He wrote: "Piece of Paul walkers car, took it off a tow truck at a stop light."

Police officers arrested Witty in December after searching his home. - Reuters
