Work hard, but don’t be a perfectionist: Actor Desmond Tan on how he’ll raise his kids
Actor Desmond Tan may have just announced his wife is expecting their first child, but he has already thought about what kind of father he wants to be.
The 37-year-old shared what he planned to teach his unborn daughter, as well as future children, in an interview with local media 8world published on Oct 24.
“I hope they will have the spirit to chase their dreams like I do, and do it boldly,” he said. “I want them to work hard every day and be motivated.”
But he added: “Don’t learn my bad habit of perfectionism, it will make you overthink and get exhausted.”
As to what traits he hoped they would inherit from his wife, Desmond jokingly said “beauty”, then added that he would want them to be “gentle, patient and calm” like her.
Although he married his university sweetheart back in 2021, she has hardly been seen in public. Tan only posts shots of her from the back or without her face visible.
Still, Desmond had told AsiaOne in a previous interview that he introduced her to his colleagues while filming his latest drama All That Glitters, where he plays a young man who was orphaned at an early age and becomes best friends with He Jianzhi (Ayden Sng) and Huang Jintiao (Jeremy Chan).
His wife visited him for about five days at each filming location in Thailand and Malaysia.
“It was nice to have her be included in part of the team because she also went out with the directors' and producers' spouses who came along,” he said.
