Weekend Food List: White Rose Cafe’s lunch treat hard to beat

For a value lunch, the a la carte buffet at York Hotel's White Rose Cafe is hard to beat. It was previously available only on weekdays, but is now offered daily.

The promotion, Treasured Flavours of Singapore, is ongoing except for the few weeks each year - usually during school holidays - when the cafe features its popular Penang hawker buffet.

From the menu of 25 local dishes, don't miss the Fish Head Curry (above). The curry is delicious with a subtle fragrance of coconut, but without the heaviness of coconut milk.

This dish from the a la carte menu costs $28 for a half portion and $42 for a whole head. There is only one order of this for the buffet, but the serving is generous enough for a table.

Other dishes to try include beef rendang, deep-fried curry chicken wings and stir-fried long beans with dried shrimps. Desserts include chendol, ice kacang and cheng tng.

Turkish Kitchen Takeover At Maggie Joan's

Maksut Askar, who owns Istanbul restaurant Neolokal, takes over the kitchen at Maggie Joan's to present his new Anatolian cuisine. The menu focuses on traditional Turkish home recipes and flavours, with contemporary interpretations. It will feature Neolokal classics such as slow-cooked uveyik, an ancient Turkish wheat cultivated by chef Askar and cooked for seven hours with leeks and onions.

The Market Grill's Seafood Focus

The Market Grill has an expanded menu with a strong focus on seafood. AquaMarine Goes Thai

AquaMarine at Marina Mandarin takes you to Thailand next month with a wide range of dishes and cooking styles inspired by its chefs' trips to the Land of Smiles.
