Star Style: Jill Lim is a brand 'slob'
ONE FM 91.3 DJ Jill Lim says price doesn't matter if one looks good in it
One FM 91.3 DJ Jill Lim has very strong opinions about fashion.
The 25-year-old said: "I don't get Kanye West's line (the musician's fashion line is called Yeezy).
"It's so boring, I don't get why you'd pay hundreds of dollars for a plain grey shirt."
She's not into Japanese or Korean fashion either.
"It's ridiculous," she revealed.
She said: "There's nothing prettier than a girl in a white dress. Maybe I'm subconsciously desperate to get married but it just feels very European to me."
For her, brands don't matter.
Still, she is happy to give local label Mash Up a plug.
"I love Mash Up. I want them to make me a whole collection!''
"Their clothes are colourful but not gaudy, quirky but not overly hipster. It takes a certain kind of person to wear their stuff. "
Lim's best possession is a $15 studded belt her colleague Melody Chen got her.
"It's never old having a studded belt," she said.
"I'm not a brand snob, so price doesn't really matter. If you feel great in what you're wearing, it's worth whatever price you paid for it."
While Lim is up for trying new styles, her attempt at being glamorous once backfired.
"For Amber Lounge last year, I wore a long bare-back dress, and the stick-on silicon bra I bought wasn't sticking! So I figured I'd go bra-less.
"I only realised how sheer the dress was when we were doing the carpet for the event, you could see everything!
"I spent the rest of the night avoiding all camera flashes and lights of any kind."
Lim bought this Tobi dress online, but has yet to wear it out. “It’s pretty short with a side slit and low neckline and I’ve never worn it. My lack of cleavage equates to the lack of confidence to wear it out, so every few months I wear it around my room and check myself out.”
Although she chose to wear a Versace X H&M dress that was pretty crazy, Lim says it’s her hair that takes the cake.
"Once in a while I attempt my victory rolls or bumper bangs so my hair makes even a regular outfit look a bit 'crazy'."
Lim started colouring her hair at 13.
"We were in Bangkok with my family and my dad was sick and tired of shopping and wanted to sit down somewhere. So I conned him into letting me dye my hair blue so he could get a few hours of chill time.
"Of course being a kid I thought I was the coolest thing that ever walked the earth with my blue hair.
"In all honesty, it looked horrible."
Lim confesses she is a "slob" when she turns up for her shift on One FM 91.3.
"I love it. Perks of being a radio deejay."
Her typical outfit is a jacket, over a tank top and jeans (all from H&M).
She added: "Comfort over style most of the time."
But she'll dress for the occasion.
"When we have events, I'll suck it in and arch it out!"
Lim bought this dress from Iron Fist at Bugis Village for Audi Fashion Festival two years ago.
"That was the year Her World asked us to do street fashion reports, and I thought this would go with the gowns and dress.
"Iron Fist is happy Goth. Even though it's all skulls, the skulls are really happy. Like sugar skulls! The dress makes me feel so good."
There's nothing prettier than a girl in a white dress.
