Ondeh ondeh churros? The coolest food to check out at World Food Fair
The World Food Fair at Singapore Expo Hall 6 has over 1,000 F&B products for you to taste and buy.
That has attracted its fair share of the aunty/uncle types.
But it doesn't mean young foodies won't find anything.
Here are some suggestions:
Okinawa Gelato South&North sells an amazing Purple Sweet Potato gelato ($5.50).
The subtle sweetness, the soft chunks of sweet potatoes and the creaminess of the gelato make this a winner. Also try the Salty Milk gelato. That's another interesting flavour.
The trendy raindrop cake is one of the hottest food trends now, and you'll find it at the fair.
Soobingbing is selling the basic set for $4.
I've been curious about it so I was glad to try it. It was bland and the film that forms the cake broke easily when I bit on it, releasing a lightly sweeten liquid.
Well, there are just some things you taste once and that should satisfy your curiosity.
There is a DIY set where you get to add on a sauce and a couple of toppings. Get that instead.
Teppei Syokudo is offering snacks that you can take with you around the fair.
The Hokkaido Scallop Fry ($2 a piece) is filled with ingredients, encased in a crispy coat.
It's a popular stall so expect to wait.
And since you're waiting, you might as well order everything else.
They have squid at $2, a curry croquette at $2, and a Japanese beef version at $4.
The bright colours of the yellow fin tuna was such a draw, you can't help but head to the Okinawa booth to buy a pack.
It'll set you back $28 for 250 grams, but the flesh is firm, sweet and fresh.
And there's sampling too, so you can satisfy your cravings there too.
This is one of the most popular Taiwanese street food at the moment.
Potato Run ($5 onwards) is basically a mashed potato ball halved, with ingredients such as meat, egg, pineapple and cubes of more potatoes stuffed into it.
Churros has had its moment but it's still a popular option for a snack.
