Gym food for the HEALTHY
Since I resumed going to the gym, I have been attempting to eat healthy on my days off.
It is such a bother, but one just has to give it a go.
Thankfully, options are plentiful and there is one more now: YOLO.
It opened in August and owner Alexis Bauduin, who came in third in reality TV series The Apprentice Asia, has a grand plan - take seemingly unhealthy food and make it healthy.
The sad truth is health food will always taste like health food, although YOLO certainly tries to disguise it.
If you are looking for full and rich flavours, head to a hawker centre instead.
And eating here is just like being at the gym.
Bauduin looks like a gym bunny and the music - which you can download from YOLO's website - makes you want to go for one more round of body pump.
CAULIFLOWER FRIED RICE
The cauliflower fried rice ($9.90) is something I will order again. I ate at YOLO twice (on my own and on YOLO's invitation), and this impressed both times. It is filling and tasty.
COCONUT CHICKEN
YOLO's version of the Thai green curry is the coconut chicken ($11.90). The flavour profiles and texture work. It could be slightly spicier though.
QUESADILLA
I have mixed feelings about the chicken quesadilla ($11.90). I found it almost salty but it is pleasing enough.
CHICKEN RICE
The chicken rice ($10.90) here is far from the ones I love. The chicken breast is dry and while YOLO attempts to flavour the rice, it is a miss for me. Nothing beats the original.
MEATBALLS
Arnie's meatballs ($13.50) have a rich tomato sauce, which greatly lifts the dry meatballs and canteen-quality pasta.
