Movie Review: Rock The Kasbah (NC16)
It's hard to believe that Bill Murray can be annoying.
So is the American cast, which includes Bruce Willis, Zooey Deschanel and Kate Hudson.
Murray plays washed-up music producer Richie Lanz, whose sole client, Deschanel's Ronnie, bails after they arrive in Afghanistan for a United Service Organizations (USO) tour.
Stranded and penniless he discovers Salima (Leem Lubany), a girl with an amazing voice who yearns to join singing competition Afghan Star. Lanz helps fulfil her dreams despite facing a potential death penalty as Salima is culturally forbidden to sing in public.
The film's meandering and redundant plotting is not the only issue. Each character is also so clichéd.
Director Barry Levinson can't decide if this a comedy, a feel-good drama or a political satire. Rock The Kasbah is such a waste of talent.
