So what if singing's not her strongest suit?
Our resident Kiss92 DJ/ journo says no one cares if Selena Gomez lip-syncs or not
COMMENTARY
A couple of different things are going on with the lovely and reasonably talented Selena Gomez right now.
She's releasing super sexy music videos to support her latest solo album, Revival.
There's Good For You, which is all kinds of good for me.
Just last week, she put out a preview clip for her upcoming Hands To Myself music video, and it's mostly her in underwear.
No complaints. Her underwear game is super strong.
Her singing game is not quite as strong, which is obviously the reason she's accused of lip-syncing.
After her performance at the 2015 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show which was aired last week, some haters claimed the 23-year-old US pop starlet was faking it.
She of course denied it.
Thing is, she's been caught blatantly lip-syncing before.
At a Christmas concert in 2013, she forgot to hold the mic up to her face while "singing" her hit song Come & Get It.
Her vocals continued even though the mic was at her hip and her lips weren't moving.
Following that incident, she ended up taking time off, reportedly to take care of her health.
It seems she had some sort of mini breakdown.
She was also apparently suffering from lupus, an autoimmune disease that affects the organs and skin.
Poor girl.
Anyway, the thing I don't get is why anyone would care that she lip-syncs.
No one is buying Selena Gomez albums for the singing.
I bet that there are literally millions of girls in the US alone who can sing better than her.
She has a music career because she's pretty and she's famous.
I'm not judging her, it's just a fact.
The reason she works her sex appeal so hard is that it's her main thing.
You don't see Adele or Sam Smith parading around in their undies.
I just don't think anyone who's a fan of Gomez has any right to complain about lip-syncing.
Pop music isn't just about - or even mostly about - music.
It's a popularity contest.
Looks, timing, connections and dumb luck -these factors have as much to do with making it in the biz as the music itself.
Pandering also helps.
Believe it or not, I really like Selena Gomez.
I like her for the same reason you like her: She's smokin' hot.
