Suicide solution

Our resident Kiss92 DJ-journo invites you to bring a bit of doom into your life with Suicide Squad album

As a morning shift DJ on Kiss92, I hear a lot of happy music.

Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry, Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez, Ed Sheeran, Justin Bieber - it's nice to be surrounded by positive tunes in the early morning.

The trouble is, listening to light music all day can get super boring.

In fact, if all you listen to is this sort of music, then chances are YOU are super boring.

Now, I have the antidote - Suicide Squad: The Album.

If the dark and daffy movie was meant to give us a break from the usual anodyne superhero fare, then this soundtrack is a welcome respite from the pabulum we're being force-fed by the music industry.

Suicide Squad: The Album features original tracks from truly exciting artists, including Skrillex, Twenty One Pilots and Kehlani.

It's hip hop-heavy, with the likes of Kevin Gates, Eminem and Action Bronson, but there are also some great rock tunes, such as Panic! At The Disco's cover of Bohemian Rhapsody and Fortunate Son by Creedence Clearwater Revival.

It has a good balance of genres, and it comes together to perfectly capture the cheerfully evil tone of the flick.

The one song that really stands out for me is Medieval Warfare by Grimes.

The Canadian synthpop performer wrote the song with Harley Quinn in mind, and it's very easy to imagine it as the sound echoing in the psycho vixen's mind.

Check out the lyrics: "Are you big? Are you ugly? / Can you kill a man with your hands? / Are you hot? Do you want me? / Think I don't understand?"

Apparently, Grimes was annoyed that some journalists interpreted the song as sexual - mistaking "hot" for "hard" - so she wrote an open letter stating that it is indeed about violence.

It's true to its title.

I've heard the tune described as trap punk, but to me it just sounds like dance rock, like Garbage or Blondie.

I bet there's a part of Taylor Swift that would love to do a song like Medieval Warfare.

Until recently, she's been good at playing the nice girl.

Something tells me there's more than a little Harley Quinn in that pretty head of hers.
