THE SONG:

Leaping Across A Thousand Dreams

THE ARTIST:

Grasshopper

THE LYRICS:

Every night Grasshopper are dancing amid laser beams/ Grasshopper are dancing in your hearts/ We run freely and travel through electric currents

THE RESULTS:

Leaping Across A Thousand Dreams, the groovy hit single taken off Cantopop trio Grasshopper's self-titled debut album, gave these Hong Kong lads -brothers Remus and Calvin Choy, and childhood friend Edmund So - their much desired showbiz break.

The fresh-faced threesome had honed their craft as singer-mentor Anita Mui's back-up dancers for years, touring across the Asian region with the late diva.

THAT WAS THEN:

The lanky dudes were swiftly embraced by teenyboppers. Grasshopper was all the rage in the early 90s, pulling off a slew of vigorous Mandarin and Cantonese dance numbers such as Baby I'm Sorry, Heartbroken Peers Unite and Price of Having a Crush.

Between 1990 and 1995, they bagged Hong Kong's prestigious Ultimate Song Chart's Best Pop Group accolade a grand total of six times.

THIS IS NOW...

Longtime fans must be heartened to know that 25 years on, Remus, 47, Calvin, 49, and So, 48, are active veterans in the entertainment scene.

The Honorary Award recipients at the 18th Singapore Hit Awards last year will be here for a concert at Compass Ballroom, Resorts World Sentosa on March 15. They have also successfully branched out into hosting - their variety TV programme All Star Glam Exam earned them Best Entertainment Presenter at the TVB Awards Presentation 2011 in Hong Kong.
