THE RESULTS:
My Way (A Mi Manera), originally penned by singer-songwriter Paul Anka, was Il Divo's Spanish remake of the Frank Sinatra hit from 1969. The song, part of the UK four-piece operatic pop vocal group's debut self-titled album, took Europe by storm and was a No. 1 hit in the UK, Canada, Argentina, Australia, Mexico, Finland and Sweden.
THAT WAS THEN...
The quartet - comprising French pop singer Sebastien Izambard, Spanish baritone Carlos Marin, American tenor David Miller and Swiss tenor Urs Buhler, who are all in their 40s - was formed by British music mogul Simon Cowell in 2004. They were named Most Multinational UK No. 1 Album Group in the 2006 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records .
Releasing music in different languages including Spanish, English, Italian, French and Latin, Il Divo went on to become one of the most sought-after performance groups of the 2000s, singing at events like the 2006 FIFA World Cup opening ceremony.
THIS IS NOW...
Having sold more than 26 million albums worldwide thus far, Il Divo is still going strong.
Their latest album A Musical Affair, which features guest performances from the likes of Barbra Streisand, Nicole Scherzinger and Kristin Chenoweth, draws inspiration from Broadway shows and unveils a more romantic and emotional production of heartfelt classics like Bring Him Home (Les Miserables) and Tonight (West Side Story).
Il Divo will be bringing their Broadway-themed concert, Il Divo: A Musical Affair - Live in Singapore World Tour here. It will be held at The Star Performing Arts Centre on March 17, 8.30pm. Tickets start at $98 and are available from Sistic.
