Angry at failed diet, teen in US robs four Subway sandwich outlets to get money back
He wanted to lose weight.
So the teen embarked on a diet after watching advertisements from the sandwich chain Subway.
But he never shed the pounds. Miffed at the failed diet, the 18-year-old decided to get his money back - by robbing the Subway outlets in Alabama, US.
Police arrested Zachary Rapheal Torrance, 18, at a Walmart store last Thursday (Oct 30) after a customer there recognised him from surveillance footage they had posted online.
Hueytown Police Chief Chuck Hagler said: "He told the detective that he had been on the 'Subway Diet' and it had not worked for him and he felt like he wanted his money back."
The diet is created by longtime Subway pitch man Jared Fogle, who claims he lost more than 200 pounds (90kg). It is built around eating two low-fat sandwiches from the chain per day.

Torrance, who admitted to holding up the outlet with a handgun, is also a suspect in three other Subway robberies, all in the vicinity of Birmingham, Hagler said.
He has been charged with first-degree robbery and is being held in the Jefferson County Jail with a US$250,000 (S$322,000) bond.
Police declined to disclose how much money Torrance had stolen.
Torrance told police he was at the Wal-Mart to get a holster for his handgun.
The weapon appeared to match the one used in the Hueytown robbery, Hagler added. - Reuters
