The baby of an Australian woman who went into labour on Malaysian Airlines flight MH135, forcing an emergency landing in Bali, died before reaching the hospital.

The woman, Samual P Jeyanthi, was brought to Kasih Ibu General Hospital in Bali after the plane landed at Ngurah Rai International Airport at around 2.10pm Friday (Oct 24).

The plane was flying to Brisbane, Australia from Kuala Lumpur.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported the hospital's head of medical services Diah Ratna Dewi as saying that when the woman arrived, the baby of around 24 weeks had already been delivered and was dead.

"We estimate the baby was born 1 to 1.5 hours before we received her. According to the patient, there had been no problems with her pregnancy," she was quoted as saying.

The doctor added that the woman was treated and picked up by her airline around 9pm.

The original flight, carrying 178 passengers, left for Brisbane two hours after it landed in Bali.
