Bukit Bintang blasts said to be business-related gang clash
Malaysian authorities have ruled out terrorism as a motive behind the explosion outside Sun Complex in Bukit Bintang at 4.30am on Thursday (Oct 9) morning.
"(The incident is) believed to be business-related," Criminal Investigation Department chief SAC Gan Kong Keng said during a press conference.
That theory was further affirmed when Bukit Aman’s counter-terrorism division senior official Datuk Ayub Khan also ruled out terrorism when he said via a text message to The Malay Mail Online that the incident had to do with "gang rivalry."
The explosion, which happened outside a Kuala Lumpur pub, killed one person and injured 13 others including tourists from China and Singapore.
Malaysian Prime Minister Mohammad Najib Razak condemned the incident via a tweet this evening:
According to The Star Online, the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code and Section 4 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act.
