BANGKOK: Thailand will free a Swiss man jailed for blackmail in a case linked to a graft scandal engulfing the 1MDB Malaysian state investment fund, his lawyer said yesterday.
Xavier Justo was jailed in August 2015 for attempting to blackmail his former employer PetroSaudi International, a Saudi oil firm allegedly involved in corrupt dealings with 1MDB.
His lawyer told AFP that Justo will get out early after a mass prisoner amnesty, granted by the new Thai king after his ascension to the throne. Justo had been given a three-year sentence after he was arrested in June last year. - AFP
