Driver escapes injury in crash at Upper Bukit Timah Road
The rubbish truck was making a U-turn when it sped forwards and crashed into a tree, injuring its passenger.
He had to be rescued by Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) personnel, who used hydraulic spreaders to free him.
The driver, who is in his 40s, was unhurt.
The accident occurred yesterday at about 5.30pm on Upper Bukit Timah Road, about 200m from the former Bukit Timah Fire Station.
The truck's front windscreen was smashed, its front left door completely crushed and the axle holding the front left tyre badly bent.
TNP reader Jeffrey Billington, 55, drove past the scene and was shocked by what he saw.
"I've lived here for 15 years and I've never seen such a serious accident," he said.
"When I saw how badly damaged the truck was, I thought to myself someone must be dead inside."
The passenger was taken to National University Hospital with injuries to his left arm, the SCDF said.- Ronald Loh
