Drunk passenger forces MAS flight to turn back to KL
A Malaysia Airlines flight to Colombo had to turn back to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) because of a drunk passenger, the carrier said on Sunday (May 10).
Flight MH179 had taken off from Kuala Lumpur late on Saturday (May 9).
In a Facebook post, Malaysia Airlines said an intoxicated passenger started harassing the crew shortly after the flight took off.
The statement added: “Due to his big body size, other guests had to assist the crew to restrain the passenger.”
No other details were given in the post.
Flightradar24 had tweeted that the plane was returning after two hours of “fuel burn to reduce landing weight”.
The carrier suffered two major aviation tragedies last year.
Flight MH370,which was carrying 239 people, disappeared in March 2014 after inexplicably diverting from its Kuala Lumpur-Beijing course.
No trace of the aircraft has been found.
MH17 went down last July in eastern Ukraine after being hit by a surface-to-air missile. All 298 people aboard were killed.
