M'sian MP behind video satire in firing line

A dead chicken and red paint, along with A4 printouts of Seputeh MP Teresa Kok's image, were found on the staircase leading to the Democratic Action Party (DAP) member's office in Seputeh, Kuala Lumpur, yesterday.

A cleaner found the items and notified the management of the building, who then called Ms Kok, The Star reported.

The management has filed a police report on behalf of the eight units which share the building's staircase.

Ms Kok condemned the act and said that she believed this was related to her Onederful Malaysia CNY 2014 video.

The opposition politician appeared to parody several current issues in Malaysian politics in her Chinese New Year greeting video satire.

The DAP vice-chairperson said she felt sorry for the other units which share the staircase.

The dead chicken, red paint and A4 printouts were thrown into the building from outside, as the gate to the staircase was locked. The culprit was not captured on video as the building has CCTVs only from the first floor onwards.

Workers from a nearby restaurant, which opens at 6am, claim they saw the items when they opened for business yesterday morning.

All these "threats", including an NGO's reward offer for anyone to slap her, have got the public upset, claimed Ms Kok.

Conservative Muslim groups had previously slammed her video and had offered a RM2,000 (S$765) reward to anyone who dared to slap the DAP lawmaker.

Asked if she is scared, she told liberal news portal Malaysiakini: "Yes and no. I still have to carry on with my work and attend functions to meet the people.

"I have no bodyguard. But when I attend functions, there will be more people with me."

She urged social media and bloggers to stop playing up and distorting the issue, saying that "enough is enough".

City CID Chief Assistant Commissioner Khairi Ahrasa confirmed that the case is being investigated.

He told The Star: "We believe that the incident is related to the Onederful Malaysia CNY 2014 video.

"This is a very serious matter and investigations are being carried out to track those behind it."

Ms Kok, meanwhile, revealed that earlier this month a wreath addressed to her was also found at the entrance to the building.
