Teen drowns after game with friends goes wrong
Just hours after graduating from high school, a teenager drowned after he was pushed into a lake near Atlanta as part of a game on Saturday night.
Chance Werner, 18, was tied to a shopping cart before he was pushed into the water by his friends.
His body was found early Sunday morning in about 30 feet of water and he was still tied to the cart, said Department of Natural Resources spokeswoman Melissa Cummings.
The game
Cummings said that the game involved participants sitting in a shopping cart tied to a pole
Others would then push the cart right to the edge of the dock so that the person sitting in it would be flung into the water.
When it was Werner's turn, the cart was tied to the teen instead. And the weight of the cart pulled him under.
Cumming said the game was "an accident waiting to happen - kids playing with ropes and heavy objects".
"We don't want people playing games with water like this," she added.
Hardworking father
The recent graduate, who is a father of an eight-month-old baby boy, took online classes to compete his high school diploma and worked five days a week to support his son, his father told WGCL.
Mr Fred Werner said: "He was a big boy, had a big heart."
