Election bites: SDP cycles to home visits

This article is more than 12 months old

The Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) rode bicycles to visit landed property homes in the Farrer Road area yesterday.

SDP secretary-general Chee Soon Juan and his family were among the group of 10 cyclists at King's Road.

Speaking to media at the end of the house visits, Dr Chee said that there were about eight groups of volunteers visiting the entire area, which falls under the Holland-Bukit Timah GRC.

"Campaigning in this area, it's just very different from a HDB because the area is bigger and the message is different. What we've been telling residents is to vote us so they have another voice in Parliament to keep the Government in check," he said.

Dr Chee said that the party should be able to announce its candidates soon, likely at a date closer to Nomination Day.

With a smaller group of 11 candidates, he said the SDP now has enough resources to ensure each one has a fighting chance of winning.

He introduced SDP treasurer Chong Wai Fung, 45, a healthcare administrator, but stopped short of confirming if she was going to be fielded.
