He told woman to feed mum faeces
Neighbour of woman in slapping video charged with abetting to voluntarily cause hurt
He had earlier told the media about his immediate neighbour's alleged abuse of her mother and even provided photographs that he claimed he had taken of the abuse.
But in a twist to the tale yesterday, the man, Darwinder Singh Sukhdev Singh, 39, was charged with one count of abetting his neighbour, a 25-year-old woman, to voluntarily cause hurt.
Singh, who is unemployed, had allegedly abetted Ms Siti Nur Redha Khamis to feed her mother, Madam Kamisah Burel, human faeces and urine at Block 48, Lower Delta Road, on July 1 at about 10.30pm.
THE NEW PAPER, JULY 22
After the charge was read to him in English, the portly man, who was dressed in an electric blue shirt, asked to address the court.
Speaking in broken English, he said: "I only told Ms Siti to (feed her mother faeces and urine) one time, but she do it every day."
Singh added that Ms Siti had been out of a job for eight months and had asked him for money and he had tried to help her.
She even told him to pawn his jewellery and sell his mobile phone and laptop, he said.
When District Judge Christopher Goh asked Singh what he was trying to say, Singh replied: "She accuse me of many things, but I have many things to tell about her, too."
He also said that he had a medical condition, which he did not specify, and he needed to take care of his mother, who also has a medical condition.
They have been receiving financial assistance from the Community Development Council, he added.
The police prosecutor asked for Singh to be remanded at Tanglin Police Division for him to help with investigations into other possible offences.
The police will be taking him back to the scene where the alleged offences could have taken place "for a long time", the prosecutor added.
Judge Goh agreed and Singh will be back in court next Friday.
No plea was taken during the session.
If convicted, Singh can be jailed for up to seven years, fine, caned, or any combination of the above.
The alleged abuse of Madam Kamisah, who was reported to be 58, came to light after another neighbour, Mr Mohammad Juani, 25, posted on Facebook a video that showed her being slapped outside her flat, allegedly by Ms Siti.
Singh subsequently spoke to the media, including The New Paper, about the alleged abuse and provided photos that he claimed to have secretly taken of the alleged abuse.
