SCDF personnel in dorm-trashing incident to be punished

This article is more than 12 months old

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) personnel who were involved in the trashing of a dormitory at the Civil Defence Academy in April will be punished.

An investigation was launched after two video clips showing SCDF officers misbehaving and damaging property were posted on social media.

The clips showed broken bunk beds, chairs, fans and cupboards. Mattresses and pillows were strewn all over the floor.

One officer even smeared what looked like black shoe polish on the floor with his boot.

Ooooppsss ada lagi video rupanya...Just a nasihat - kalau nak buat chinese calligraphy, pakai brush, ink and paper. Jangan pakai kiwi, boots, and lantai bunk, macam ni hantu.

The investigation found that 23 SCDF officers from the 20th Section Commander Course (SCC) were involved, to varying degrees, in the April 24 incident.

Nine of them were regulars, while 14 of them were full-time national servicemen.

The regulars are facing civil service disciplinary action. They may get a warning letter or even be dismissed depending on the extent of their involvement.

The NSFs have been charged under the Civil Defence Act and can be punished with a fine, detention or even a demotion.

Five other regular officers with supervisory roles in the 20th SCC are facing disciplinary action and may get letters of warning or advice.

The SCDF said in a news release on Friday (June 26) that it "deeply regrets the misconduct of our officers and takes a very serious view of it".

"Such behaviour does not reflect the culture and discipline expected of all SCDF officers," it said.
