Taking selfies a top draw among Big Walk participants

This article is more than 12 months old

Big Walk participants grabbed the chance to capture memorable moments

Taking selfies was a popular activity among the 25,000 walkers at The New Paper Jubilee Big Walk on Sunday morning.

And it's no wonder - the walk covered historic and iconic landmarks within the Civic district and Marina Bay precinct.

We picked five #TNPBigWalk15 selfies as our favourites, and they each win $50 worth of KFC vouchers.

That's not all, the best one - voted by you - will walk away with an additional $100.

Go to the TNP Big Walk 15 photo album at facebook.com/thenewpaper to vote for your favourite by "liking" the pictures! Voting ends Dec 4.

WHO: ERVIN ONG

Why did they take the selfie?

"I had a really great time with my family at the Jubilee Big Walk and it helped me reflect on the time and years that our pioneers spent to build up such a great nation today. This photo represents that in a way."

Why did we pick this photo?

This multi-generational photo exemplifies why the Big Walk is so popular - it is a family event. The photo has character and personality despite the lack of creative elements.

WHO: BRENDA LOW

Why did we pick this photo?

This photo is fun and we love how Brenda incorporated the bronze sculpture statues near the Esplanade into the picture. We almost couldn't tell the statues apart!

WHO: ANGELA LEE

Why did she take the selfie?

"PM Lee was so near me and he was taking photos too so I thought that it would be nice if he was in the shot," said Ms Lee, who went to the Big Walk alone.

She said: "I couldn't get any friends to join me for this year's Big Walk. I didn't feel alone at all because there were so many people with me."

Why did we pick this photo?

How can we say no to a selfie that includes PM Lee Hsien Loong, the guest-of-honour at the Big Walk? It even looks like PM Lee might be taking a selfie too!

WHO: SABARIYAH MISNI

Why did they take the selfie?

"It was the perfect location to take a wefie as we managed to capture the financial heart of Singapore back in the old days via the Singapore River... Capturing the SG50 banner on the tall building in the photo, we also hoped that we will be able to take the same wefie 50 years down the road when it's SG100."

Why did we pick this photo?

We admire their dedication in taking a selfie at every major landmark - and in creative ways too.

Despite the blazing hot sun, they are seen here with wide smiles in every photo. And this picture in particular brings out the SG50 celebratory atmosphere by showing our famous Singapore river.

WHO: INSTAGRAM USER JACE.LYN.O

Why did we pick this photo?

This is more of a video selfie and collage but we love how she looks so happy at the Jubilee Big Walk. She also has a great jumpshot.
