'Titanic' battle between two heavyweights

Over the past two days, a war of words between PAP and WP took to the high seas

On Sunday, Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong likened the dilemma that Aljunied voters face as getting on a cruise ship with a destination versus a casino cruise to nowhere.

Mr Goh: "If you go with the People's Action Party (PAP), you're embarking on a cruise ship with a definite destination, you know the path it will take, you know the captain, the crew members, you know the quality. These (opposition parties) are gambling ships, casinos. Very exciting. So you can take this ship, you can gamble, but you go nowhere."

Yesterday, Workers' Party (WP) secretary-general Low Thia Khiang responded during a walkabout at Geylang Serai with remarks about the Titanic.

Mr Low: "I'm afraid the cruise ship is over capacity limit and it used to be a luxury cruise ship. The designer claimed that it was not sinkable. The name is Titanic. There are not enough lifeboats. No preparation or provision for failures. Thank you, Mr Goh for reminding us."

Last night, ESM Goh posted a response on the MParader Facebook page.

Mr Goh: "Titanic sank on its maiden voyage. The PAP cruised over 50 years under three captains. All onboard are safe."
