IKEA recalls ceiling lamps after reports of glass shades falling

Home furnishings store IKEA is recalling Hyby, Lock and Rinna ceiling lamps. 

Customers who have ceiling lamps from the above brands are advised to remove them immediately and bring them back to any IKEA store where they will receive a full refund, the store said in a statement released Tuesday. 

Transaction receipts are not required for a full refund. 

In the statement, the company said it had received reports of ceiling lamp glass shades falling from customers worldwide, with some cases involving medical treatment, including one incident in which a customer reportedly needed stitches. 

No injuries have been reported in Singapore.

All affected products have been removed from shelves. The Hyby and Lock ceiling lamps have been sold in all IKEA markets since 2012 and 2002 respectively, while the Rinna product has not been sold in Singapore. 

"Safety is always a top priority for IKEA and all products are tested to and comply with applicable testing standards and legislation," said the store.
