Man arrested for City Hall bomb hoax

This article is more than 12 months old

A 22-year-old man has been arrested for threatening to bomb City Hall on social media.

In a statement yesterday, the police said a report had been made on Jan 14 at around 12.36pm about the online post.

Officers from the Bedok division immediately started investigations to establish the identity of the person.

The man was arrested shortly after.

It is believed that the suspect had posted the comments as a hoax and police investigations are ongoing.

The police added they take a serious view against irresponsible behaviour that creates unnecessary public alarm.

Anyone convicted for an offence of a Breach of the Prohibition Against False Threats of Terrorist Acts can be fined a maximum of $100,000 and jailed up five years or both.
