Police nab man over ZoukOut ticket sale scams
A 27-year-old man was arrested for his alleged involvement in several ZoukOut ticket sale scams, police said in a media release yesterday.
The man was arrested along Town Hall Link, in Jurong East, on Tuesday.
Since August, buyers have made reports of being cheated by a seller who offered discounted tickets to Zouk's annual beach festival on online marketplace app Carousell.
After being paid, the seller would become uncontactable.
The man faces a charge for the offence of cheating, for which he can be fined and jailed up to 10 years.
PRECAUTIONS
The police advised the public to take the following precautions when shopping online:
- Before performing a transaction, find out how the website safeguards your interest or can help you resolve disputes.
- Whenever possible, pay only upon delivery of the item.
- If advance payments are required, use shopping platforms that provide arrangements to release your payment to the seller only upon your receipt of the item.
- Be mindful that although culprits may provide a copy of an identification card or driver's licence to gain your trust, it may not belong to the person communicating with you online.
