SG50 Jubilee Big Walk: Bigger, better and comes with $880 in goodies

This article is more than 12 months old

PM Lee Hsien Loong among 25,000 expected at this year's special SG50 Jubilee Big Walk

This year's Big Walk will be bigger, better and (drum roll) will offer more freebies than ever before.

Participants will walk away with $880 worth of goodies, including a special commemorative medallion and a limited edition T-shirt.

The commemorative Big Walk
T-shirt is specially designed by Denizen.

Why the bonus goodies?

Because the event on Nov 29 will be part of Singapore's Jubilee celebrations.

The SG50 Jubilee Big Walk will
take participants on a commemorative trail that connects the past, present and future of the Singapore Story.

The route will be identified by special trail and monument markers, leading through historic and iconic locations within the Civic District and Marina Bay area.

It will be bigger and better because 25,000 people are expected to join the fun.

It will be more meaningful because it is part of the Jubilee celebrations.

And it will be special because Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will be walking with you.

CELEBRATING SG50

The SG50 Jubilee Big Walk is jointly presented by the People's Association and The New Paper.

"The New Paper is thrilled to be part of the SG50 celebrations by taking thousands of Singaporeans and their families on a morning walk through this historically significant corner of the island," said TNP editor Dominic Nathan.

"Fans of our annual event can expect all the fun and festivity associated with the walk and much more.

"Over the coming weeks, look out for all the details on how you can take part and celebrate the Jubilee Big Walk with us."

ARTS AND FUN

The route starts at the National Museum of Singapore, continues through the Civic District and Marina Bay, and ends with a carnival at Gardens by the Bay. (See route above.)

Along the route, walkers can expect to be cheered and motivated by the People's Association PAssionArts Works-of-Wonder gallery.

Works to be featured include large format visual arts installations in the form of Façade Art, Ground Art and Water Art.

Mr Alvin Yeo, the chairman of community engagement for the SG50 Jubilee Big Walk 2015, said the programme is specially planned by volunteers to offer a different community experience.

"We are happy to partner Singapore Press Holdings for this walk," he said.

"Many community performers will brighten up the route where a walk with neighbours and friends can relive the past, appreciate the present and relish the future."

The walk will end with more fun at the finish with a carnival, lucky draw and an arts exhibition on Singapore's future.

Among those waiting to sign up is retail assistant Lee Qiu Wei, 29, a long-time supporter of the Big Walk.

"I am so excited for the Jubilee Big Walk, I cleared my annual leave to participate... I won $100 last year, and I hope to win something bigger this year."
