Stockbroker fined for kicking ball against boy's legs
A man was fined $2,000 yesterday for kicking a football at a nine-year-old boy's legs three times.
Keith Tan Chee Siang, 36, was upset because the boy had kicked the ball which accidentally hit his daughter, six, and caused her to fall off her kick scooter.
Tan, a stockbroker, was also ordered to pay $108 compensation to the victim after he admitted to hurting him at a Housing Board void deck in Bukit Panjang.
District Judge Salina Ishak said Tan had overreacted and his actions had caused injuries to the victim.
"As an adult and parent, you ought to have set a better example and not taken matters into your own hands," she told him.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Chew Xin Ying said that on May 25 this year, after Tan's daughter was accidentally struck on her shoulder, she fell and started crying. After pacifying his daughter, Tan, intending to teach the boy a lesson, told him to pass him the football.
Tan told him to stand still near the wall of the void deck, which the victim did.
Standing about 3m to 5m behind him, Tan placed the football in front of him and kicked it against the victim's legs thrice, hitting him on his legs each time.
In one attempt, Tan had kicked the football which missed, hit the wall, rebounded and hit the victim's face, resulting in a nose bleed.
He then walked away without checking on the boy.
For causing hurt, Tan could have been jailed for up to two years and/or fined up to $5,000. - The Straits Times
