Team Singapore takes home two prizes at pastry competition
Team Singapore wins two prizes at international pastry contest
They trained for months and their hard work finally paid off.
On Wednesday, the Singaporean team consisting of three pastry chefs took home the Gold prize at the Asian Pastry Cup (APC) 2016 competition on Wednesday.
They also won Best Sugar Showpiece.
APC 2016 was held on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Singapore Expo in conjunction with Food & Hotel Asia (FHA) 2016, an international food and hospitality trade show.
FHA ends today at 4pm.
Mr Alex Yen of Team Singapore led his two members - Mr Desmond Lee and Mr Pang Yun Kian - to victory.
The team was extremely happy to have won the awards.
"We are very grateful, very excited and ready to do our very best in future competitions," said Mr Yen, 50, team manager at Bakerzin.
Team Singapore started training for this year's competition six months ago.The past two weeks were more intensive. They trained thrice a week for eight-hour stretches. Cleaning up took four more hours.

"It was hard coordinating all our schedules so we often practised overnight," said Mr Lee, 27, who is a speciality pastry chef at Mandarin Oriental Hotel.
Eleven teams took part.
Teams had to make a chocolate showpiece, a sugar showpiece, 16 plated desserts and two chocolate cakes in eight hours.
Thailand won the Lyon Passport, which means it will take part in the World Pastry Cup (WPC) in Lyon, France, next year.
Indonesia was also selected to compete in the WPC.
As Team Singapore placed among the top eight in last year's WPC, it will also be taking part in the WPC next year.
