Visual feast at Gardens

This article is more than 12 months old

Fire twirlers, stilt walkers, and aerial performers will be performing at Gardens by the Bay on June 3 and 4.

The Supertree Grove will come alive with a multimedia spectacle in a Gardens Extravaganza Special, as part of the gardens’ fifth anniversary celebrations.

The 30-minute “immersive show” will see aerial dancers hang from the Supertrees and flames shoot out from the 22m-high OCBC Skyway, against a projection of flowers and bubbles across eight of the 18 Supertrees.

To add to the multi-sensory experience, bubble artists will be forming giant bubbles during a segment of the show, which will float to the audience.

Up above, a swarm of 50 drones will be dancing in the sky, coming together to create a series of formations – the number ‘5’, the conservatories, and the Supertrees, amongst others.

Taking about four months to conceive, the show hopes to create an experience that will thrill the senses, said Gardens by the Bay director of programming, Ms Ong Chui Leng.

“It tells the story of the Gardens’ growth from the seed of an idea to become the iconic attraction it is today,” she adds.

The weekend’s activities will include a food bazaar, a dance party, and an outdoor movie screening.

Opened in June 2012, Gardens by the Bay has welcomed more than 33 million visitors, and is home to over 1.5 million plants from some 5,000 species all over the world.

Over the years, the gardens has also garnered a number of accolades, including the President’s Design Award in 2013, and the World Building of the Year at the World Architecture Festival 2012.

Speaking to The Straits Times, Mr Felix Loh, Chief Operating Officer at Gardens by the Bay, said: “One of our objectives from the beginning is to be a community space for people to gather.”

“Visitors are at the heart of what we do, and Gardens by the Bay will continue to explore how we can offer something new for visitors.”
