To pay off their debt, a teenage couple became loan shark runners and splashed paint on the walls of other debtors.

The pair, both aged 19, were arrested this week, the police said in a press release.

The authorities were alerted after a suspicious person was seen loitering outside a flat unit at Block 332 Jurong East Avenue 1 on Monday at around 7.50pm.

Officers arrived at the unit and found that it had been splashed with paint.

There was also loan shark-related graffiti scrawled on the walls.

With the help of footage from police cameras in the area, police nabbed the two teenagers and seized two cans of red paint, one red marker and one screwdriver from their possession.

The duo will be charged in court on Wednesday.

If found guilty of loan shark harassment, first-time offenders can be jailed for up to five years, fined up to $50,000 and be given up to six strokes of the cane.
