The jobless man and tourist had something in common.

They had each committed a crime: Groping their victims in public.

In the end, both shared the same fate. They were jailed and caned.

A magistrate’s court in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, sentenced jobless Vincent Edward, 39 ,to two years in prison and five strokes of the cane for molesting a 21-year-old woman.

His victim was walking with a friend in front of a  Light Rail Transit (LRT) station on Feb 27 at about 9pm when he hugged her tightly from behind, newspaper The Star reported.

Criminal record

Edward, who was drunk at the time, touched her breast and kissed her.

The victim, a student who was in the city for industrial training, eventually freed herself and pushed him to the ground.

Edward has past records of robbery and stealing.

In another case, the same magistrate sentenced a Bangladeshi tourist to 18 months in jail and one stroke of the cane for touching a 42-year-old woman's butt.

Arifuj Jaman, 28, was charged with molesting the traditional medical practitioner around lunch time on Feb 18.

The prosecution said Arifuj's actions had caused embarrassment and fear to the victim and he should be taught a lesson.
