This article is more than 12 months old

Malaysia's counter terrorism unit has identified two people involved in an Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) beheading video as Malaysians.

They are 20-year-old Mohd Faris Anuar from Kedah and 25-year-old Muhamad Wanndy Muhamad Jedi from Malacca, reported The Star.

The video, which was uploaded on Facebook on Feb 22, shows the beheading of a Syrian man who ISIS claimed was a spy.

In it, Mohd Faris is seen signalling to the camera. Muhamad Wanndy is believed to be the person recording the video.

The clip also showed another militant, who has been identified as an Indonesian.

Mohd Faris is believed to have travelled to Syria in September last year, while Muhamad Wanndy and his wife went to Syria in January this year.

The two men are believed to be part of the new wing of Malaysian and Indonesian militants identified as Majmu'ah al Arkhabiliy.

The wing replaced the older unit that went by the name of Katibah Nusantara Lid Daulah Islamiah in Syria and Iraq.
