Girl, 8, youngest to be diagnosed with breast cancer
The Turner family is no stranger to battling cancer.
Mr Troy Turner was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a blood cancer, in 2008. He underwent chemotherapy, but the disease came back in 2011.
His wife, Annette Turner, had cervical cancer, but is now free of the disease.
Through it all, the couple remained strong. Then, last week, their second daughter, eight-year-old Chrissy, was diagnosed with cancer.
"It was such a shock," said Mrs Turner, who lives in Centerville, Utah. "No child should have to go through cancer."
She said: "I broke down. It's a struggle every day worrying about my family, about my husband and now my baby girl."
Chrissy has a rare form of breast cancer called Secretory Breast Carcinoma.
The disease is so rare that it affects only one in a million people, according to Mrs Turner.
Next month, Chrissy will be undergoing a mastectomy.
A family friend said the Turners filed for bankruptcy in July 2013 due to the bills racked up from Mr Turner's treatment.
Friends of the family have started a GoFundMe page to raise money for Chrissy's operation.
So far, they have raised more than US$20,000 (S$28,000), about a fifth of their target of $100,000.
Said Mrs Turner: "We're just going to keep fighting.
"Doing everything we can to smile every day and laugh every day and carry our head high and do our best to overcome this."
Chrissy said in an ABC TV interview: ""I was scared to figure out what it was.
"But I knew I could fight it off and I hope that I can fight it off."
