Odom's life of strip clubs and escorts
Former NBA star regains consciousness but still critical
Lonely visits to strip clubs, online chats with escorts and wild partying.
Lamar Odom, two-time former National Basketball Association (NBA) champion, was spending increasing amounts of time in Las Vegas nightclubs even as he tried to sort out his private life - his divorce with reality star Khloe Kardashian - and get back to professional basketball, Mail Online reported.
The 35-year-old was hospitalised on Tuesday after he was found unconscious at the Love Ranch brothel outside Las Vegas.
County Sheriff Sharon Wehrly said officers who responded to the emergency call were told Odom had used cocaine and sexual performance enhancer supplements.
Despite a not so encouraging prognosis, reports quoting his aunt's spokesman said he had regained consciousness and was speaking on Friday. Odom was described as looking "morose" at a recent evening out.
Sources at the Crazy Horse III, which bills itself as the "best gentleman's club and bachelor party in Las Vegas", said the former Los Angeles Lakers star would sit and drink sparkling water while watching the girls.
"He was last here about three weeks ago and he seemed kind of sad," Mail Online quoted a source as saying.
"He just sat there and drank water, and didn't have a private dance." But the source claimed he liked to spend time with the girls at the club. "The girl he was with last time was kind of crazy," added the source.
"I was next to them and she was doing drugs the whole time but he was just chilled and wasn't doing any." Mail Online also reported that he allegedly began chatting to escorts online, among them transsexual porn star-turned-prostitute Madison Montag, 23.
Montag, born Matthew Maguire, is one of the girls available for clients at Dennis Hof's Love Ranch, where Odom was found unconscious after a four-day binge.
Her page features raunchy modelling shots in lingerie and smouldering portraits.
Meanwhile, Daniel Artest, a longtime friend of Odom and brother of Los Angeles Lakers forward Metta World Peace - formerly Ron Artest - tweeted that Odom "did a little talking and breathing on his own" after being taken off the ventilator, AFP reported.
"Prayer really works!!!!!" tweeted Artest, shortly after describing Odom's condition as "still critical but stable".
Odom married Kardashian in 2009 in a splashy televised wedding. She filed for divorce in 2013 but the split wasn't immediately finalised.
She reportedly remains his next of kin and is able to make medical decisions on his behalf.
