'Scissors salad' for you?
A unique menu was prepared on Monday (Nov 23) for the Malaysian Parliament staff dinner.
A picture of the menu, with typos in the names of dishes - "scissors salad" instead of Caesar salad and "cream brule" instead of crème brûlée, has been spread far and wide on social media and on messaging app WhatsApp, reported The Malaysian Insider reported.
Netizens have been taking digs at the mistakes, taking the opportunity to highlight the underlying issue of English proficiency in the country, on ongoing topic of debate in the country.

The parliament's Corporate Communications Division released a statement on Wednesday (Nov 25) saying that the menu card was prepared by the caterer and not by Parliament and was replaced when the dinner started, reported the Star.
“Parliament hopes the issue will not be prolonged in order to protect the identity and image of the country’s legislative body,” it said.
Deputy Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Ronald Kiandee posted on his Facebook account: “I was at the dinner... I can confirm that there were no scissors in the salad but it was the normal ‘Caesar salad’.
“Even though this may be a comical mistake by the caterer, but as an important institution, the Parliament staff ought to have been more careful to ensure that mistakes like this do not happen. Hmm… scissors salad!” he wrote.
Last week, a billboard stating "Welcome to the President of USA Barack Obama" for the 27th Asean summit was been slammed by Malaysian netizens for its poor use of English, according to the New Straits Times.

Kiandee in a light-hearted post on his Facebook account said that he had been at the dinner for Parliament staff on Monday night and that nobody ate any scissors.
“I was at the dinner... I can confirm that there were no scissors in the salad but it was the normal ‘Caesar salad’.
“Even though this may be a comical mistake by the caterer, but as a important institution, the parliament staff ought to have been more careful to ensure that mistakes like this do not happen. Hmm… scissors salad!” he wrote.
