An unarmed black man who lay on the ground with his hands up was shot by police in Miami, Florida, on Monday, leading to calls for the US police to review their training programmes and policies.

Mr Charles Kinsey, a behavioural therapist, was shot as he tried to get an autistic patient back to a nearby group home.

Footage released on Wednesday shows Mr Kinsey with his hands up before his leg is shot.

Mr Kinsey told WSVN-TV from a hospital bed that he asked the officer, "'Sir, why did you shoot me?' He said, 'I don't know.'"

"As long as I've got my hands up, they're not going to shoot me. This is what I'm thinking," he said. "Wow, was I wrong."

Police said the officer is on administrative leave. Investigations will be done.
