Pole chancers

Malaysian children from the ethnic Indonesian Bawean community at Kampung Sungai Kertas, a village on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur, compete for prizes by climbing a pole called "panjat pinang", which is smeared with butter. The competition and other festivities in the village were held in conjunction with celebrations marking the birth of Prophet Muhammad yesterday, a public holiday in the Muslim-majority country. - AFP
