A video of police officers struggling to handle a passenger throwing a tantrum on a plane has surface online, reported the Shanghaiist.

The footage was uploaded on to YouTube by user Yale Zhao on Sunday (Dec 6) and has almost 20,000 views.

The scene, which lasted more than three minutes, caused United Airlines flight UA087 from Shanghai to New York to be delayed for about two hours.

In the video, the passenger can be heard screaming "I want to get up" and "I want to wear my clothes" in a mainland accent as officers struggle to pick him up from the aisle as he refused to budge and kicked the officers at his feet.

According to the description of the video:

"Man decided to "upgrade" himself from economy to first class. He got caught multiple times and refused to identify himself to the crew, at one point even walking down the aisles drinking champagne that he stole from first class. The crew asks him to leave the plane and he refuses. Finally, the Chinese authorities arrive to drag him off the plane. However, they claim they are not allowed to handcuff someone that is mentally unstable (???). Finally, with the help of some passengers and plastic zip-tie cuffs provided by the crew, the man is carried off the plane kicking and screaming the entire way."

According to Straits Times, the Chinese media have reportedly identified the man, with the surname Lu, as a university professor from Chengdu's South-west University of Finance and Economics.

He had also been drinking before boarding the plane.

Officers managed to escort him out of the plane, where he was immediately detained.

Three officers were kicked and injured from the struggle.
