Try going 21 days without complaining
Let's face it, we Singaporeans tend to complain a lot.
So maybe there's something we could do to try to change ourselves before we become whining old people with 37 cats.
Author Will Bowen from Kansas City wrote a book called A Complaint-Free World. He wrote how the choice of words you use determines your actions and emotions.
So he devised this solution that's become so viral that more than 5,900,000 people in America have started on. And apparently, it's life changing - so they claim.
Simply slip on a bracelet or a band on one hand and go 21 days without complaining (guys you can wear whatever that's manliest for you). Every time you complain, you have to switch the bracelet over to the other hand and start from day zero. It sounds so silly and simple but you'll find that it works because you start to become more aware of what you say and actually end up wanting to keep the bracelet on for as long as you can.
So what exactly is a complaint?
"The train was so slow today!"
And what's not?
"The train was so slow today! I shall leave earlier tomorrow".
Author Tim Ferriss decided to give it a go and wrote an article on Huffington Post on what he found out.
- Your thought processes start to evolve and you naturally will try to solve whatever the problem may be.
- Thinking and acting more positively actually results in you sleeping better.
- You have more pleasant conversations with people.
- People are drawn to problem-solvers
You don't necessarily have to be a negative person to try this, but just give this a try and see whether the quality of your life changes or not.
