Rui En says sorry and explains her 'Do you know who I am?'

Channel 8 actress Rui En has issued an apology over an incident on Tuesday (April 12) when she knocked over a parked motorcycle.

In a statement released through her artist management company Hype Records, she sought to explain the context of "that conversation" she had with the motorcyclist who confronted her.

Mr Bahrom Sarmiten, 52, had said that the first thing she told him was "Do you know who I am?"

In her statement, which was also shared onto her Facebook fan page, Rui En explained that she had actually said to Mr Bahrom: "Do you know who I am, I live upstairs and won't run."

She added: "On hindsight, my choice of words used were inappropriate and I agree that it caused unnecessary misunderstandings."

She had knocked into Mr Bahrom's parked Bajaj RS200 motorcycle in the open air carpark near Block 331, Clementi Avenue 2.

Rui En explained that she had misjudged a turn and was "very disappointed with myself" for knocking over the motorcycled parked in front of a kerb.

"He continuously knocked on my car window while I was attempting to move my car. I later discovered that the man was the owner of the motorcycle," she said.

"I tried to signal to him to allow me to move my car first but he persistently hit my screen and gradually, his knocks got louder."

In her statement, she said that she moved her black BMW because she wanted to move her car to a spot that would not block the way.

The actress added: "He appeared to be very angry. I was unsure what I said came out sounding entirely different from what I meant.

"I was simply trying to convey that I live here, people would know and recognise me if I ran away. On hindsight, my choice of words used were inappropriate and I agree that it caused unnecessary misunderstandings."

She then went on to corroborated what Mr Bahrom had told TNP on Wednesday (April 13).

She had immediately offered to compensate Mr Bahrom for the damage to his motorcycle.

Mr Bahrom told TNP on Wednesday (April 13) that she had offered $2,000, but he deemed the amount to be insufficient.

By that time, she said that the police arrived at the scene.

Winesses told TNP that they saw Rui En being taken away in a police car.

"I would like to reiterate that it was a judgmental error on my part, there is absolutely no excuse on my careless driving and more importantly, I truly regretted it," she said.

"I would also like to take this opportunity to apologise to him for the inconveniences and distress caused."
