'Secret' tactic nets him $100
He boasts of having a "secret tactic", one that can win him contests.
And Mr Lee Ah Choy, 75, has proof that it works.
Two years ago, he used it to win $1,000 and a foldable bicycle in The New Paper Bonus Challenge.
Yesterday, the retiree did it again, winning $100 cash in The New Paper's Match & Score contest.
He told TNP: "Every time I join one of these contests, I buy at least three copies (of TNP) and it has been working for me.
"I am definitely going to try again tomorrow for the last day of the contest, to see if (my tactic) can win me the jackpot prize."
Another reader who turned up yesterday to claim his prize was Mr Ronney Poh Kow Yuen.
The freelance accounts executive, who is in his 60s, has never won a contest before but decided to give this one a go. It paid off, thanks in part to advice from a friend.
"My friend told me to try and buy as many copies with different numbers in it as possible. So I bought 15 copies of TNP and true enough, I won the $100 cash prize," he said.
"I am going to spend the money on beer and makan for myself," the bachelor added with a laugh.
One other person, Mr Haresh Ram K, also won $100 cash yesterday.
HOW CONTEST WORKS
Images of football jerseys were printed in TNP from Monday to Thursday, with the jerseys featuring either a number or a country.
New printing technology allows every copy of TNP to include a different combination of jerseys.
These jerseys can be collected to match the winning combinations published in TNP from Friday to Sunday. During these three days, there will be a daily jackpot prize of $1,000, which snowballs if it goes unclaimed for the day. The jackpot cash prize snowballs to $2,000 tomorrow.
The jerseys are valid only for that week. There will also be combinations for $100 and $200 cash prizes.
Winners must collect their prizes at the SPH News Centre at 1000, Toa Payoh North, between 8pm and 9pm on the same day.
