Amabel fights her way to Masters silver
She was the youngest in her team of four to compete in the girls' events at the World Bowling Youth Championships in the United States.
But Amabel Chua,16, proved that age does not matter if one is good enough, when she finished second in the girls' Masters competition yesterday morning (Singapore time).
The Singapore Sports School student, who finished 11th in the girls' singles in Nebraska earlier this week, was 19th among the 24 qualifiers for the girls' Masters competition, which was played in best-of-three-games format.
She dispatched England's Keira Reay 143-122, 214-181 in the first round, but lost her first game in the next round 222-187 to Sweden's Filippa Persson.
But Amabel rallied against the 2015 European Youth champion and won the next two games 233-227 and 219-202 to advance to the third round.
She faced Malaysia's Victoria Chin, who won the girls' singles silver earlier in the tournament, and took the lead after a slim 212-210 win in the first game.
The Malaysian forced the rubber by claiming the second game 223-217, but Amabel claimed her ticket to the semi-final with a 192-185 victory in the third game.
The Singaporean's opponent in the semi-final, American Gazmine Mason, was the top seed in the competition and had won the girls' singles competition.
But, against the odds, Amabel won the tie 196-187, 201-198 to make the final.
The Singaporean's fairy-tale run ended in the final, where she lost 190-158, 236-245, 227-187 to Malaysia's Natasha Roslan.
