Hockey: China down gutsy Malaysia

Malaysia pushed China hard yesterday, going down 3-1 to the favourites in the Women's Asian Champions Trophy at the Sengkang Hockey Stadium.

The Malaysians, ranked 21st in the International Hockey Federation standings, started well and seized the lead in the seventh minute, only to concede three late goals as their fitness began to falter in the latter part of the match.

In the match of the day, India (ranked 12th) faced South Korea and were determined not to slip up again after managing only a draw against Japan on Saturday after going 2-0 up.

It was the South Koreans (9th) who took the lead early on but the Indians stormed back to clinch the win 2-1.

India, China and South Korea now have one victory each while Japan have a point and Malaysia remain winless after two matches.

Today is a rest day.
