Quek moves ahead of Slorach

On paper, it looks like a straight fight between the in-form Quincy Quek and Mitchell Slorach for the 2016 SPGA President's Cup - the key event in the local professional golf calendar.

At Warren Golf and Country Club yesterday, Quek took over the lead from Slorach as he shot a one-under 71 for a 141 total to the latter's 73 (142) in the Mitsbubishi Electric/The Cocoa Trees-sponsored event.

Quek, who bagged four birdies and had a double-bogey and bogey, is one of only two players, the other being Goh Kun Yang (71) to shoot under par yesterday.

However, although Quek has four-shot lead over the battle-hardened Scott Barr in third spot, the consensus is that anything can happen on the unpredictable and tough Warren course.

Barr shot a 72 for a 145 total, a shot adrift of Jonathan Woo (72).

In the Senior division, SPGA president M Murugiah (73) put himself comfortably on the perch, with a four-shot advantage over former World Cup player Poh Eng Wah (75).
